The original plate from the Kremlin Service which seen all the Russian Emperors, Empress and their families from the reign of Nichilas I. Free of damages, very minor scratches from use. The blue cypher mark of Nicholas I on the back and inventory # in red.
The Kremlin Service was commissioned by Tsar Nicholas I in 1836 from the Imperial Porcelain Factory St. Petersburg. The design for the service was entrusted to Professor Solntsev, who was inspired by motifs found in the metalwork of 17th Century Russia.
The center of the cavetto painted with the black double-headed Imperial Eagle with crown, orb and sceptre on a green ground, enclosed within a gilt band inscribed "Nicholas, Emperor and Autocrat of All the Russias" surrounded by vermilion rosettes and foliate ornament on a richly gilded ground, the border decorated with blue and green flowers and intertwining foliage on a burnished gilt ground.
