Free of damages. A bronze box made in England which was the Russian ally in a war against Napoleon. The box was made in the beginning of the 19th century during the life of Platov. On the reverse of the box is the General's Coat of Arms.
Count Matvei Ivanovich Platov (Pribilyanskoe August 6, 1757 - Epanchitskoe (near Taganrog) January 3, 1818) was a Russian general who commanded the Don Cossacks in the Napoleonic wars. Platov begun service in the Don Cossack Chancellery in 1766, becoming an esaul in 1769. He distinguished himself in the 1771 Crimean campaign, and was promoted to command of a Cossack regiment in 1772. Between 1774 and 1784 he served fought against the Crimean Tatars in 1774 and in 1782 under Alexander Suvorov in the Kuban Valley, Chechnya and Dagestan. He was awarded the Order of St George (4th Class) for his participation of the capture of Ochakov in 1790, and after actions in Akkerman, Bender, and Kaushani for which he was promoted to brigadier, he was awarded the Order of St George (3rd Class) for the storming of Izmail. For display of bravery during the assault he was promoted to ataman of the Ekaterinoslav and Chuguev Cossacks, and on the 12 January 1793 was promoted to General Major. During 1796 he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir (3rd class) and a golden sword for courage in the Persian Campaign. For more see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matvei_Platov
