John The Baptist Life and Sufferings

A very rare subject - the Life and Martyrdom of John the Baptist.
I date it very beginning of 19th century.
Painted on cypress wood and only expensive icons were painted on cypress.
This wood was very expensive at the time and were very appreciated by iconographers for not getting warped by the age.
Very few people could afford cypress icon.
Old original brass riza was silver plated and the central square part still has a lot of original gilding.
It was and it still is an expensive icon.
Very good condition.
