The icon is hand painted over golden leaf on a wooden board in kovcheg (recess). I date it circa 1900. This is a highly professional painting that was produced in Moscow at the very end of 19th and very beginning of 20th centuries by highly skilled professional Palekh iconographers who were invited to work for Moscow’s fashion icon painting studious, and who often executed orders for rich starovers (old believers).
